the story of

jenny and kate’s story

Couple Jenny and Kate are foster carers here in Neath, Port Talbot.

the foster family

Jenny and Kate have been together for seven years, and have fostered for four.

“It’s been a four-year whirlwind but we wouldn’t have had it any other way.”

Kate and Jenny felt they had valuable experience from their jobs as a housing officer and a support worker for children with disabilities that would help them on the fostering road ahead. That being said, it was the training and support from their Local Authority that really prepared them for fostering.

“If you need any help, they’re always there to support you or give advice.”

“just seeing them happy makes me happy”

Kate and Jenny have fostered children of all ages – from toddlers to teenagers, and sometimes siblings together. Right now, they care for two girls: one 14 and the other just 5. It may sound small, but one thing they’ve noticed that has made a huge difference to both girls is the stability of a routine.

“It wasn’t easy but both of the girls seem to thrive from it. I guess they didn’t realise how much they needed a structure and routine in their lives until they had one.”

“we’re giving these children a chance to be children”

With support from our Foster Wales Neath Port Talbot team and our local network of fellow foster carers, Jenny and Kate care for children with all sorts of backgrounds and individual needs.

“We give them a start in life, with all the love and affection they need.”

Our fostering success stories are based on the real-life experiences of Local Authority Foster Carers in Wales. To protect their privacy, and the privacy of the children and young people to whom they provide care, love, and support, all the names have been changed and actors have stepped in to help us tell their amazing stories.
